Definition: sometimes referred to as the “Hawaiian Spice”, it originated from mainland China and is a salty/sweet spice used to flavor Chinese dried fruits and seeds, and more contemporarily in desserts. One recipe is as follows:
- 3T Hawaiian Salt
- 1 lb brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups lemon juice
- 1T 5 spice
- 3T whiskey
- 10 whole cloves
